Hey! I'm Bethany. You may also know me as B!
I am a New York City based designer and mixed media artist. My work explores intangible elements—light, sound, reflection, and time—through material experimentation and perceptual manipulation.

My childhood habit of re-arranging my shared bedroom, much to my sister's annoyance, sparked my pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design and Technical Theatre specializing in Scenic and Properties Design.
Currently, I am a Master's student at the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

While still rooted in physical objects, my recent practice incorporates digital and computational elements to expand interactive possibilities. My work is often an invitation to slow down and reconnect with the value of handmade craft. Through a blend of digital innovation and hands-on techniques I aim to celebrate the care and skill that often gets overlooked in our fast-paced world.

Things I'm thinking about right now: textured light, time keeping, cats, snacks, and Egg Yolk Yellow

Flocking | Dumbo Projection Project, Vol. Six
Projection Art
Co-Creator in collaboration with Audrey Oh and Sai Ram Ved Vijapurapu
.
"Flocking" is a site-specific projection artwork created for the DUMBO Projection Project. The installation explores the intersection between industrial infrastructure and the natural ecosystem vital to the area. Inspired by the site's distinctive soundscape, we anchored our creative process in the auditory experience, translating it into visual form through responsive animated birds that dynamically react to the loud presence of passing trains.

Where You Linger | NYU ITP Winter Show 2024
Interactive Art
.
"Where You Linger" is an interactive diorama that explores our personal relationships with time when we are engaged with our work. Inside the diorama, which the user sees through a peephole, is a Pepper's Ghost projection of a person engaging in different activities at a desk. The user is able to alter the passage of time within the diorama, which reflects how fleeting time can be when we are focused on a task at hand. This creates a different experience for each user depending on where they choose to linger in the model.

Untitled Light & Color Exploration
Interactive Art
Co-Creator in collaboration with Julia Xu
.
This project explores the manipulation of light transmission as a controller for soundwaves. As ink is added to a body of water, the light that is read from a sensor below the vessel alters and in turn changes the amplitude of the soundwaves. The more obscured the water, the sounds become quieter.
